With the release of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra, we’re having to relearn how we approach one of our best-selling models. With the redesign, the Elantra gains new features that have been split between two new trim levels.

We thought it would be helpful for our customers if we dive in and take a closer look at what separates the SE base model from the more loaded Elantra Limited.

Without further ado.

New 2017 Elantra SE Packs in Features for Classic Hyundai Value

Interior of a 2017 Hyundai Elantra

As a base model, it should be said that the most apparent new feature of the Elantra SE is its new design. While it may look familiar next to more recent Hyundai models, the new grille and headlight arrangement are completely new for the Elantra. The car cashes in on a successful design philosophy, employing a gradual arc drawn all the way from the hood to the roof of the trunk. Reworked taillights leave an impression on cars lucky enough to follow in the Elantra’s tire tracks.

On the interior, the SE follows an industry trend of standardizing tech features that were optional only a few years ago. Owners now get a USB port and access to a 6-speaker sound system for all forms of radio and MP3 playback. Other standard features include:

  • 15-inch steel wheels with wheel covers
  • Tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel
  • 6-way adjustable driver’s seat including height adjustment for driver and passenger
  • Front and rear door map pockets
  • Lower console box with sliding cover

The Elantra SE retails for $17,150, and that’s only the beginning.

Near Limitless Upgrades in the Elantra Limited

As expected, the Limited trim level includes or improves upon everything in the base model of the car.

Note that both versions offer only the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine at this time. It puts out 147 horsepower and specs the same either way. The difference is that the SE comes standard with a 6-speed manual, while the Limited comes standard with a 6-speed automatic transmission with Hyundai’s SHIFTRONIC® and Active ECO System. (The 6-speed automatic is available as an option for the Elantra SE).

The Elantra Limited has an enhanced user interface thanks to a 7-inch color touchscreen that supports both Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™. The single USB port in the SE becomes dual charging USB ports on the upper trim, and cloth seating surfaces are upgraded to leather.

Other enhancements in visuals and comfort include:

  • 17-inch alloy wheels
  • LED taillights
  • LED Daytime Running Lights
  • Hands-free smart trunk
  • Chrome beltline molding and exterior door handles
  • Heated front seats
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob

The Elantra Limited has an MSRP of $22,350, once again an incredible value given what’s included (and we haven’t even covered all of the features and options packages).

For those who like their sedans with just that extra bit of versatility, we do not currently have any information on if Hyundai will be releasing a 2017 Elantra GT, but we will be sure to keep you informed if anything is announced.
